Have you been thinking about starting a blog of your own? I get inquiries daily about how I started, what I recommend, and all the ins and outs of blogging. Whether you want to start a money making blog or a blog for fun, the most important thing is to start with the basics. So, here is my guide on how to start a WordPress blog in 10 easy steps! It will only take a few minutes to get your WordPress blog up and running!
If you are planning on making blogging a business, you will need to invest. It is important to invest in the right things, so that you aren’t wasting money.
STEP #1. SIGN UP WITH BLUEHOST
First and foremost, it is important to have a web host. A web host allows your site to be seen by everyone on the web, and it saves all of your websites files. Bluehost is one of the most highly recommended web hosting sites, and it comes at an inexpensive price.
STEP #2. CHOOSE THE BASIC PLAN
Starting out, the basic plan will be adequate enough. You can get the basic plan for $3.95 per month via this link: Bluehost Basic Plan. This includes a free domain name for the first year, 1-click WordPress install and 24/7 support.
STEP #3. CHOOSE YOUR BLOG’S NAME
In my opinion, this is the hardest step. Some people just know what they want to write about, and some people know what they are going to call their blog. I wasn’t one of those people. I talked about writing a blog for almost a year before creating mine, and I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to name it. I realized that if I was really going to start a blog and be all in, then the name had to be good. It had to be something that would stick. One of my top recommendations is to create an easy to remember domain and blog name. If there are multiple numbers, symbols, etc., it’ll make it harder to remember your account.
STEP #4. FILL IN YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
This is easy peasy, obviously. Another recommendation, create an email address for your blog, rather than use your personal account.
STEP #5. FILL OUT PACKAGE INFORMATION
STEP #6. PROVIDE PAYMENT INFORMATION
Remember, this will be automatically deducted from your account! Also, make sure to click the ‘I have read and agree to Bluehost’s Terms of service’. Last, click the green ‘SUBMIT’ button.
STEP #7. CREATE YOUR PASSWORD
If you used my links for Bluehost, then WordPress will be automatically set up for you.
But first, you’ll need to set up a password for your Bluehost account.
You will receive an email confirmation from Bluehost…
Step 1: Go to your email provider (i.e. Gmail, Outlook)
Step 2: Confirm with Bluehost
Step 3: Create a password!
STEP #8. SIGN IN TO YOUR BLUEHOST ACCOUNT
After you have created your password, sign in to your Bluehost account. Fill in your username or domain name and enter the password that you chose. Click the blue ‘submit’ button to enter your Bluehost account. This is also know a the “cpanel”.
STEP #9. INSTALL WORDPRESS WITH ONE-CLICK INSTALL
Simply press the website tab to drop down the websites, and click the install wordpress icon.
STEP #10. LOGIN TO YOUR WORDPRESS DASHBOARD
Last, log into the wordpress dashboard using the same information you set up for your Bluehost account.
